On the road again......

'57 Chevy back in the day

Many years ago Mike was heavy into drag racing in Ohio and he often ran at the Thompson Drag Raceway driving a 1957 Chevy owned by his friend Big Al.  That was starting in 1968 up until Mike got drafted into the US Army.  While he was away serving in the military, Big Al decided to hang up the trophies so to speak and sold the car to another friend, Mark who drove the car as a teenage and has held on to the car all these years.  This summer when we were on a trip back home to Ohio, as we were pulling out of a local restaurant; Mike glanced up the road and said, look there is the old '57 that I used to race.  Sure enough, there was Mark cruising in the '57.  He stopped and it was quite a site to see them going over the car and reminiscing about the old days and all the things that Mark had done to get the car running and on the road again.  The Thompson Drag Raceway stickers from when Mike had won races were still on the back side window.  We heard later this summer that Mark had just recently took the '57 back to Thompson and participated in an "animal run" which he actually won; against some pretty stiff competition I hear.  He said that they announced over the loud speaker that it had been over 40 years, but the old '57 had come back home.  Thought you might like to see a few photos back in the day and present.
